Get to know Black Sheep Collective YYC

Born in 2022,

Out of a need for more Weird and Wonderful space for small, local Calgary Artists to connect and sell their art!

Now a whole year later, and we have created a safe, open space to share local weird and wonderful art. The sense of community, love and friendship is unmatched.

We are so proud of what Black Sheep has become and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Tenneille & Rochelle

These two are the team that has pushed Black Sheep Collective to where it is today. They are the ones looking through your applications, replying to your emails and buying your snacks.

They met at another beige market here in Calgary and started dreaming of somewhere all the weird artists to come together.

They wanted to create something that only attracted not only those who understood the weird and wonderful, but celebrated it.

Tenneille - Marketing & Adminstration

Tenneille Vertigans is originally from Medicine hat, and is now a graphic designer & multidisciplinary artist practicing here in Calgary. In her spare time, she runs Magic8Things; a small business here in Calgary that focus’ on Jewellery, Ceramics and digital illustrations.

In her professional life, she is currently working for Joey’s Group of Companies, creating digital & print work for their different brands. She loves her work and is very passionate about marketing & graphic design.

Rochelle - Administration & Event Planning

Rochelle is a multi-disciplinary pop-surrealist artist currently living and creating in her sweet crooked studio in Calgary, Alberta.

She has been drawing since she could remember. In her teens Rochelle followed the Riot Grrrl movement, loved going to all ages shows, and reading and making zines. Rochelle received her degree in Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba. Since then, Rochelle has been traveling, creating and learning. These experiences have led her to the connection she has with counter-culture and low-brow art.

Rochelle is also the owner of Thursday Sounds, which was created as a tribute to the Night Gallery bar & Cabaret. This was a place where being different was embraced. At Thursday Sounds Rochelle makes things she loves with the same sentiment.

Starting the Black Sheep collective with her partner in crime, Tenneille set the stage for creative collaborations. It only took a few minutes after meeting Tenneille that they decided to work together to create this collective for the lovers of the weird and wonderful.

Cheers to all things weird, strange & unusual! xo- Roch

Nigel - #1 Helper

Nigel is our #1 helper! He keeps our markets running smoothly and is truly the muscle in whole operation. We are forever grateful for him and you should be to!

Neff - #2 Helper

Neff is our second helper and has been such a great asset to the Black Sheep Collective! As a local trans artist, she has a unique style of combining line art, pointillism, and skateboarding. You can find her work on instagram under @neffeffeff or @love_lee_skateboarding!

Our collective artists

Every market, we bring back a collective of returning artists. These artists have vended with us before and are part of our forever growing collective.

Then we fill the remaining spots with brand new artists who you have never seen at the collective before. This keeps our markets fresh and keeps us growing.
